Discovering Worms means delving into a legendary world. The heroes of the ‘Song of the Nibelungs’ dominate this Romantic City, and maybe you will find the legendary Nibelung gold on a trip down the Rhine. Worms was also influenced by the reformer Martin Luther, as it was here that he defended his writings against Emperor Charles V, which is why one of the largest reformation monuments in the world can also be found in Worms. Worms is at its very charming best when the sun slowly sets in the evening. The narrow streets of the old town lead to the beautifully floodlit cathedral and monuments, while the Rhine gently flows past and locals and visitors alike enjoy the outstanding local wines in cosy pubs and wine bars. If you prefer a beer, we recommend a visit to the local Worms Hagenbräu brewery on the banks of the river.
The special exhibition in the Worms City Museum in the Andreasstift sheds light on the story of the Investiture Controversy in a modern, fun way. The first part of the exhibition sets out the background to the Investiture Controversy, the trip to Canossa and the resolution of the conflict in the Concordat of Worms in the form of a Banksy-style graphic novel. The exhibition also boasts an escape room game you can play on your mobile phone.
The second part of the exhibition showcases more traditional exhibits to reinforce the content, providing interesting access to the subject for all age groups. There is also an educational programme in tandem with the special exhibition.
