If you want to see the great wealth and high level of comfort that the Romans in the region enjoyed during Trier's heyday, then you absolutely must visit this museum.
Here you can see not only the interesting finds from the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but also the largest collection of mosaics north of the Alps and the largest gold coin hoard ever found from the imperial period. It weighs 18.5 kg and comprises 2,600 gold coins. Of particular note are the gigantic stone monuments from the village of Neumagen-Dhron on the Mosel, which are regularly brought to life in a multimedia show.
All in all, the collection of some 4,500 objects covers a period of 200,000 years and includes finds from the Ice Age, the Celtic, Roman and Frankish periods, and up to the end of the 18th century. The presentation was awarded one of the most important international prizes for design, the "red dot: best of the best". In addition, in a space of 1,000 m² special exhibitions are presented which are well worth seeing, including large regional exhibitions of international standing.
