The new church was inaugurated on 9 November 2011.
The three-storey synagogue building was redesigned and rebuilt at the no longer used St. Guido church. The foundation stone for the new synagogue was laid on 9 November 2008, 70 years after the old synagogue was destroyed during the Night of Broken Glass.
Speyer, like the two other SCHUM cities of Mainz and Worms, is an extraordinarily important place for the history of Judaism.
