The trail starts at the historic "Weiherschleife", the last water-powered gemstone cutting mill on the Idarbach - well worth a visit! A first viewpoint offers views over the Weiherschleife, the high rising rock faces of a quarry behind it and to the Wildenburg (castle). Later, the viewpoints at Schachenkopf and Hasenklopp follow, as well as the “Dietzenplatte” picnic area.

At the Enzweiler viewpoint you have an exceptional view of the Nahe Valley.

Behind Algenrodt, the trail begins at the visitor gallery of the Steinkaulenberg gemstone mines. On the way, it leads past lots of former mine entrances. The hiking trail runs over the spoil heaps of former gemstone mines. The Steinkaulenberg gemstone mines are the only gemstone galleries open to visitors in Europe. Further along the trail is the geological nature trail, which provides a lot of interesting information about the geology of the Saar-Hunsrück-Nahe region.
