Alzey Castle appears today primarily as the historically designed location of the local court. For centuries, however, Alzey Castle was the residenc of the Wittelsbach family. Especially under the aspect of the residence function, the grounds and buildings of this former seat of the Rhineland Count Palatine are explored as part of the castle tours. There is the seldom given opportunity to inspect areas that are normally inaccessible to the public. Not only the courtroom and the representative bay tower are shown, the walkway behind the battlements and the rampart are also shown. The tour is led by Dr. Rainer Karneth, the director of the Museum Alzey.
